Drunken Nine Cups

The old Chinese proverb ‘Ji Xiang Jiu Jiu’ (prosperous for a long time) is brought to life through the Nine Wine Cups in both form and function. The number nine is regarded as an auspicious number in Chinese culture as ‘Jiu’ means ‘eternity’. It also shares the same pronunciation as ‘wine’. ‘Jiu’ symbolising ‘eternity’ is embodied in the nine (Jiu) cups and the wine (Jiu) that they are meant to hold. Gifting the Drunken Nine Cups is akin to wishing the recipient everlasting prosperity, affirmed with every use.
