Yellow Chinese Famille Rose Vase with Flowers and Fishes

Qing Dynasty (QIANLONG PERIOD)

This vase is 35cm tall with a 7.7cm mouth diameter and 8.5cm base

diameter. It has a lopsided mouth and a narrow neck. The shape narrows down from the shoulder and the ring foot leans outward.

This vase was painted turquoise inside and yellow outside. Pastel lotus flowers with four groups of double-fish patterns is painted on the outside. Double fish represents fortune and abundance as it is the homophone of “Yu”, fish in

Chinese therefore the base is painted with double fishes in an eight-shaped pattern.

 

 

粉彩黄地缠枝花鱼纹瓶

清乾隆。

高 35 厘米，口径 7.7 厘米，足径 8.5 厘米。

清宫旧藏，瓶撇口，细颈，肩以下渐收，圈足外撇。瓶内施松石绿。外壁以黄釉为地绘粉彩缠枝宝相花，花间绘四组双鱼纹饰。鱼，余同音，此瓶画双鱼，作八字形斜置如磬，寓意吉庆有余。
