《宫女谈往录》以那拉氏晚年生活为中心，详细地叙述了她的起居、燕游。书中的宫女何荣儿十三岁进宫，由慈禧指婚，十八岁许配给光绪帝的贴身太监而出宫，婚后不到一年，通过李莲英说情，又再次进宫，在储秀宫内当宫女达八年之久，专为西太后敬烟，并曾随西太后西逃。
